Programs and Workshops

Storytelling as a Healing Art offers experiential training in storymaking and storytelling as a creative and transformative process. It is designed for caring professionals, as well as parents, teachers, professional storytellers and others who wish to develop new understanding, skill, confidence and refinement in storytelling as a healing art.

The training provides an integrated journey through individual projects and group participation. Participants study the influence of story on the health and development of individuals and groups. Types and qualities of imagination and narrative are explored, in relationship with a broad variety of challenges to physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health across the life span. The participants are given the opportunity to learn many ways to integrate speech, movement, music, color, writing and dramatic arts with storytelling and storymaking in their personal and professional lives.

We also offer workshops and consultations in therapeutic storytelling and the art of storytelling.

How can stories help us understand ourselves and others, especially during times of stress and change? With a background of modern psychology, this six-week course will provide practical guidance for storytelling and storymaking, to meet a broad spectrum of personal and social needs in children and adults. Working with biography we will also discover how voice, gesture and image stimulate healthy development at whatever stage of life we find ourselves. Trust, self-esteem, wonder and forgiveness will be cultivated through storytelling arts. The course includes painting, movement, dramatic arts and other forms of creative expression that awaken insight into one's own story and the story of others.
The course is especially for caring professionals. Others who wish to deepen their work with storytelling as a transformative process are also invited to apply.
